Does unfollowing result in a loss of followers often?

I am not an affiliate or anything, I am building my own personal account, and I am on a personal basis somewhat with followers, and now that I am gaining more followers I'm unable to follow as much. Also, when I check "don't unfollow followers" on FollowLiker, it takes forever unfollowing because it has to go through all of my followers and see if they're following which results in a very slow unfollow rate.

Is there a way to make it go faster? I emailed them and they said they'd add the feature. Otherwise, I do have to eventually unfollow followers. Is it risky in the sense that you end up pissing people off?

Many IG users have apps install to find out if their followers have dropped, if so they will probably do that same. It's hard to guess how much you would lose if you unfollow.

One way is to not unfollow in a short period of time. Wait a few days before you unfollow. In your case, you'd followed these accs for a awhile now. They would not know if you have dropped them if you did.

dont speed up the things, keep your activity in a safe range, I always go unfollowing all, even followers, at some point you'll need to because of following limit (7.5k), keep in mind that at some point in the road You'll start growing organically too (If Your account is interesting enough, content is key) You'll always lose followers, but U'll keep gaining more than you lose.

All depends on your content. I usually gain followers when I unfollow

I've noticed that these apps are more common within the "creator-userbase". But if you're content is more for consumers, they won't unfollow as much.
The last few months my stats were like this:
content for creators: 7-10% unfollow rate
content for consumers: 3-4% unfollow rate
(snapshot data taken after every 1k unfollows)

But now comes the fun part. The moment you drop below 1k followings, you start gaining a lot more followers again, because people don't see you as a follow-to-unfollow account.
