As I'm sure you have guessed from the title.

What are your thoughts on this method?

You create a landing page which offers people a free guide after they have entered their name and email.
The guide gives them information but mentions a product which they will need to (make it a lot easier to) carry out what the ebook actually goes on about.

The people come to the site via different means such as SEO, Twitter etc.

Yes, course it works. It works in pretty much any niche as well...just got to make the free guide really good so they will be wanting more. Don't make a standard guide, make it stand out so they won't think its another piece of shit lol

Well a mate and I are thinking of doing '1 minute guides' - in the sense that it won't take them long to read. I find people don't have time these days, so if they think it's something they can read quickly and get the answers/information they want, they'll grab it.

So we'll pick a subject; write a short guide which they'll get emailed and this will then funnel into Stage 2. This could be a product or a longer guide. That's the general idea we have at the moment.

There's millions of subjects out there, so can't see how it wouldn't work.

1 question I do have: Twitter > Squeeze Page I think will work well, but Google > Squeeze Page won't work well as know Google don't like them... so, what would you suggest to give the page more content?

We were thinking different format for different types of traffic. So:
domain.ext/subject/blog & domain.ext/subject/squeeze - the blog would then link to the squeeze page.

Just thinking out loud here, so any thoughts you'd like to share would be great.

Yeah thats a good idea, but try not making it just like a minutes worth, just cut all the crap out of the guides and just put all amazing information in, but really make it short, so they get really good answers instantly.

Getting traffic from Google is fine if you can, but try and not make really long boring sales pages, get a video up, and next to the video the sign up form. I know this would be impossible to rank in google as you'd just have a video, but you still have twitter, youtube etc to use.

Just get to work, take action, otherwise you will spend ages thinking and not doing.

Cheers for the reply. Good thinking re: Youtube and marketing via that way.

I guess it's just about structure. We're starting off with 1 website which will be split up into many subjects which will result in many guides and sales/squeeze pages.

But I'm wondering how to fit in a blog. I mean let's take Twitter for instance. We'd have a Twitter account for each and every subject, and we'll target different people with each account, for people interested in that subject.

But there's only so many times you can tweet "Come and give us your email address for this guide!" lol, so we have 2 choices I can think of:
1 - tweet about external sites such as news on that subject
2 - put the news on our site eg domain.ext/niche/blog... which will be updated via tweets on Twitter and the blog will also have the video and email box (or link to the sales page)

The blogs could also get picked up by Google and funnel people through to the salespage and subscribe box so the blog will be doing 2 jobs... adding content so we can tweet new things to the followers + give Google something they want: content.

If we only had it as loads of sales pages, then Google wouldn't want to know and we'd be limited to what each Twitter account could tweet (unless we mentioned news sites but then our followers wouldn't be coming to us).

Hope that makes sense!

Nice thread OP. Are you going to put your link to the product in the guide, email it to them later or both?

A very good question and to be honest that's something we're pondering over.

At the moment I'm thinking of doing both: link to the product in the guide as something which will meet their needs and will enable them to carry out what the guide is advising, but also email them in 2-3 days as a reminder, with more benefits as to why that particular product will make life easier for them.

I think it's all down to testing, testing and more testing. If anybody is being successful with this and could perhaps take some of the need for testing away that would be great.

your huge site traffic------>> people should submit name/emails ------->> free guide (which includes your $$ money making link $$)

What you are making here is a gateway / a content locking system for your money making link(s) , You dont allow your initial visitors to see your money maker link, they should first pass through your Content locker to see it (like some email submit CPA lockers) .. And you lose a factor of 95% visitors to see your money maker links to see, only 1%-5% will submit their names /emails to see your actual link ?? WHY ?? why you are preventing people to see your actuall sales link directly in their first action (=visiting your landing page)?.

You are locking your money maker link..Instead You can shorten your guide with your product links in it and present every visitor without requiring any more action..I think this will eliminate *0,05 factor decrease in your sales..

Just my opinions..Good luck..

The reason for capturing their email is so I can market to them again and again. If only 5% leave their details it's 5% I can market to again in the future.

If they happened to just go and buy the product, that would be it. There would also be no presale and something they can read on their computer not necessarily today, but next week or next month.

I know all that remarketing things if u have emails..but still I dont know..It is different in your case..

If we talk about numbers if CTR of email submits 5% (its very good number I think) , You get only 1/20 of the visitors right ?..

So you should send at least 20 x times emails to each customer to catch same amount of initial visitors to landing page..Like a equation :

1000 initial visitors to landing page (without any action) <====> 50 email submitteed visitor x 20 times email to them ...

both side seem to be equal and it seems to be if you mail them more then 20x times u will get more than 1000x impression of your page with your money maker link in it..

problem: left side of the above equation is 1000 unique visitors , but right side is just 50 unique people have been just tried over and over 20x times ..which one is more efficient ? I think this is depend on also your niche ..

Beside this , you are trying to convert from the freebie hunters..All the email submitters are writing their name/emails wanting to have just free guide . Maybe among other 95 % people there were fast cash buyers of your product , if they would know that you are selling that product..But they just see u are giving away free guide, not selling anything?..

It works, as it always worked and will work for a while.
Give it a shot :)
