Does this sound like a good niche for a noob to SEO?

So I?ve decided to build a big website and get long term traffic from Google searches. I?m failing to make a consistent income off of affiliate marketing and I think a solid presence on Google for searches that the naive and middle aged make will help me a lot. I?m hoping to start seeing traffic within six months with the below details:

I have found a niche where there are over 25 exact search phrases relating to ?using [niche] to [task]? with between 3000 and 7000 US searches a month. When I search the exact phrases in Google I get back between 60,000 and 250,000 results for each. For most of the searches the top five results are riddled with Adsense sites that have EMDs for the keyword phrase and only several pages of content. There are a few big authority sites in the top results but no consistent presence for every search. Does that sound good for a noob?

Also, if I buy a domain that encompasses the beginning of the search phrases and create articles each optimized for one of the specific phrases ? for example, if you make a site that tells you how to get different jobs you could use the domain howtobecome and then optimize each article for ?how to become a sailor? etc. ? would this be as good as having an EMD for each phrase?

    Thanks for any advice.

If the top five are already EMD, it does sound like a bit much for a noob. My advice would be to find a micro niche keyword that doesn't have much competition, get the EMD, get it to first place then grow from there.

I agree with dujow. No point in fighting against guys who've done this for a while and have aged sites on your first one. There are and always will be tons of michroniches that no one has thought about. Find one you can dominate, and then start attacking those with a little competition.

It can be done. Though I wonder if it's worth the effort to compete with some many EMDs when you could find better low hanging fruit.

Thanks for the comments, I don't mean the top five are EMDs for every search, just that when there are pages clearly optimized for the search phrase they are nearly always Adsense sites without much content. Isn't it better to compete with those sites than the huge niche sites? My site will have a lot of content so it should end up with more weight than the tiny Adsense sites if I optimize correctly, shouldn't it? What about the rest of my stats on the keyword phrases? Do they sound like competition is too difficult?
