Does something like this exist?

    Hi,

I've been looking for a solution to solve a problem I've got at the moment. Basically I need something that can act as a mains supply and is portable. A good example of what I'm looking for is an external power bank, however they all seem to only supply power through a USB cable, I need something exactly like this, except it needs to be able to act as a mains, in so far as allowing a UK plug to be plugged into it. It needs to be rechargeable and needs to be able to be charged via a mains or a USB cable. This doesn't seem like such a far fetched thing given that technology is advanced as it is.

How do campers go on? Surely some of them have to use something like this?

    INB4 I get no replies ;)

    Thanks,
    TMW

Get a large UPS station and add a socket to it so you can plug stuff into it. This or a portable generator (diesel or gas) which I assume won't be a good option for what you want to use it for.

What you want is called an inverter. Basically a UPS has an inverter inside it, but you can buy just the inverter and install it in your car and get mains supply.

Thanks for the above answers, but an inverter sounds a bit big compared to what I'm looking for. I was looking for something the same size as an external power bank. But the answers above have given me an idea :)

You can buy an AC/DC inverter it makes 220v from 12v. Plug it in your car and have 300-500w at your needs :). Or if you don't have a car nearby or at all, get a scooter battery (its significantly smaller) (has to be 12v) and get yourself a small inverter (some are the size of a cellphone charger) take it apart and wire it with the battery - you have a small 220v power bank for charging a phone or charging a small laptop or a lamp for ex.

I can give you many ideas for this if you tell me what do you want to power with it. :)

That's very specific hardware you are looking for. I think it will be pricey if it exists.

A portable UPS with battery backup should do the trick.

Yeah, unfortunately anything that generates 60 hz with any decent power is gotta be big. I've searched for a long time and ended up with a computer UPS in the trunk of my car ;)
