    Hey,

I took a long break from online marketing (2013 to 2016). So I am a bit confused these days and have a noob question. Everywhere you read "4K+ words are the way to go" and to be honest, I am burned out, writing daily. I have some sites where I actually can only write 200-300 words for that specific topic.

For example, I want to write a description about a new porn clip from naughty america, Badoink etc. You know, they release videos almost daily. It is impossible to write 2k articles for each video and describe what they are doing in that scene.

So I wonder if it will hurt my site if I write short descriptions? I read "thin content and Panda will penalize you etc." but you simply can´t write 2k words for each topic. Same goes for Amazon product descriptions. If you write about hacksaws, man you cant write 2k words for 100 different hacksaws. Its a hacksaw.

There is no such Rule of Thumb. All you need to focus is to see that
    1. your content is answering all queries of your customer
    2. Quality of your content is great!
    3. Your content is doing value addition to the topic you are writing.

If you fullfil these 3 points no matter how many words. Yur visitors are going to like your content. Google will automatically give prefrence to you.

Make a good website for visitors/customers. Dont make website for google.

No, it's the uniqueness and quality of the article
a 800~1500 article of repetitive phrases and sentences which means the same thing but worded differently
dragged on blabbering about random non-relevant, non-engaging shit, over-optimisation, over-emphasis, dragged on sentence, useless meaningless words to boost word count
    are all terrible.

Some articles are best short, while other are best long.
It really depends on your niche and your website.
Like @bluejunkies mentioned, no rule of thumb.
Go as you feel OP, if you believe, you can't write more than 300 on a certain topic for that one article without over optimising, over-emphasis on keywords, without repeating the same shit 10 different ways. But still make it engaging and enjoyable to read, there is no problems at all, having a short article. Then, that would be the best course to go.
However, if you can manage to write more than 2k on another article, it would be a wise course of action

Agree on no rule of thumb. Plus, authority sites even get away with ranking pages with little content based on authority alone. It's a benefit they have due to domain size and trust from search engines.

However, I'm assuming authority isn't established yet so I think everyone just aspire for at least 500 - 600 words nowadays in order to get more keyword variety in there and avoid over-optimization.

200 - 300 words don't get you much coverage on a topic imho. A quality crafted article (if you want to beat or be one of the best for a set of keywords you are after) will even go to 1.2k words at least (especially if you want to fit in multiple topics into 1 article).

Short article doesn’t hurt anymore if you describe everything properly and it makes sense to the readers. And, it is important to focus on unique and high-quality content.

What i think the best strategy is:-
    • Write 3000 word content for super main pages
    • Write 1500 content for medium level pages
    • for inner pages section, write any amount of words from 300-1000 words

I have a short post on my blog: "What is yolo?" in a little european language. A few words with translated meaning and an image. Three days ago this little post bringed me 1000+ visitors. Top 1 post before forums, and wikipedia.
Just give fast answer to your visiors' questions without word counting. This method works.

For on-page content: 2.000 words or more
For product descriptions: 100-200 words or more depending on product type
    For on-page articles: 500-1.000 words
For not on-page articles: 300-400 words

I think the count is not really a matter but the quality and unique is a must. Focus on writing the quality and engaging contents to your readers will help your website.

With these short pages I don´t want to rank for anything. I got my main webite and the main keyword is lets say "lesbian porn". So my home page has solid 2k words and important subpages 2k as well. But these short description pages are just for users to show them a demo clip about "lesbian porn". I shortly describe here whats the video all about. These pages are not SEO optimizied. I mention "lesbian" and "porn" 1-2 times and thats it. That was SEO back in 2010 for me before Panda and this "thin content" shit hit the google world. So I was worried if each article has to be 2k+.

    Thanks everybody.

    The short answer is NO.
The long answer is IT DEPENDS.

Short articles are very useful for those who wants a quick answer and don't want to spend hours reading war and peace to find how something works, what is etc.

Let's face it, people just scan content on the net and very few read an entire article unless there some sort of story that they have a vested interest in and those people are a few. Why do you think Twitter and Facebook are successful? Small, non boring, relèvent, media reach content.

So, to answer your question, as long as you article gets to the point quickly, concisely and easy to follow and understand, you've got your users attention - which is make them share and link to if they care.

Writing short can be refreshing — like ice in your underwear. It’s also a practical way to build a writing career. Short is also sweet in terms of demonstrating that you can consistently carry a certain kind of article to completion. Google favors detailed content. According to SerplQ successful blog posts should contain a minimum of 2000 words.

I think You are in great confusion more than OP.

    Hi OP,

You don't need to write 2K words articles for every post. Minimum 300 words are the absolute limit for the articles. You can go more than 300 words but not less than that. Give interesting content to the readers that will help to increase the traffic.
