    Hi,

I got an idea about publishing news snippets on my website related to the niche, stories would be fetched from news.google.com and a link to original website would be given at bottom of the bulletin.

Question is, would this affect my ranking on Google? Does search engines rank those sites who link to authentic news sources? Isn't it community service? ;)

I don't see any reason for Google to give extra value to this kind of publishing nor have I seen many sites do this. If anything, I would be afraid that the snippets could be seen as duplicate content. That being said... the only way to find out is to try it! With enough good snippets, you could increase your crawl rate, showing freshness which would definitely help your rankings.

It couldn't really hurt to try. Let me know if you end up doing it!
