Can it actually indicate the spam content, or is it useless?

No.

I have had heath on the net and authority links marked as spam by moz. By web 2.0s have a 1 spam score.

Semrush is a lot better at spam scores.

Gotta say, Moz metrics are next to useless these days, I would not waste my time with them.

To be honest, it's look like a joke and can be hacked in less than 10 minutes.
It base ONLY on stats, not on content - it mean you can push machine generated shit and for Moz it will be great content.
Also if you will get some chinese links, you will improve your DA quickly as many chinese webmasters doing it right now if selling links.
