Sine .info is so cheap, im thinking about doing some link farms with them. on a SEO perspective, do google give more weight to .com than to .info or any thing of that kind?

What is inside in website and quality of what you have in there is what people looks at more than domain name. Of couse its good that you even have domain name!

You can rank an info as well as a com if you know what you're doing. Search here on the forum for previous threads and you'll find a wealth of info (get it - is joke) about how to do it.

Coms have a slight advantage, but nothing too dramatic. If you can afford, buy both of them and do a 301 redirect on the .info.

I was going to create a thread on this subject but decided to use the search function first. LMAO, wish others would also...so much repetitive stuff here.
Anyways I am setting up a campaign and got my keywords etc, searched .com names and really nothing I wanted. Its a micro niche that gets decent traffic. So I grabbed .info instead and am setting site up now.
I have read both sides of the argument, infos are garbage too .info with good seo will do fine. My question is...of course i dont expect ex. toysrus....info to rank like toysrus...com, but if Im in a micro niche like toysrfree.info with little competition will i get ranked?
I will do all the same seo work as if it were dot com, thats a given. I just am going to be setting up like 10 of these type sites in the next week or so and dont want to waste time on .infos if I cant get ranking.
PS my niche isnt toys or anything like that. I know I can do testing and will do, just like to here from somebody that ranks .info domains.

you can rank #1 with .info sites as well but that would take much more effort.

.com's are valued more by google and .info's are generally seen as spam by SE's unless you have good content, lots of it, and backed by tons of backlinks.

Around 1month or so ago i built a website with a .com domain and added some unique content, actually a lot of it. The url had nothing to do with the keyword, neither the H1 tag. I forgot to mention that the density of the keyword was ok and the website has now 4000 backlinks found by yahoo.

Two weeks later i decided to build an autoblog with joomla so i bought an info domain with exactly the keyword i was going after.

So i was testing a com domain with unique content (approximately 20 articles) and an info autoblog with no optimised articles whatsoever but it had approximately 300 articles in the beginning and around 20-30 articles everyday for 1-3 days. Then i stopped the cron so more article fetching..

In a week the autoblog outranked the com domain but i am unable to use it for what i want due to trademarks etc.. Now, the info domain is offline and redirected to the com

In other words, i dont think that info and com differ so much in ranking etc. It was actually sad to see that because the autoblog took me around 3 hours to build and find the blogs that wanted to copy and the com domain took me around 1 week and the content was unique, well written etc.

Well ok. I have heard both sides of the story. Of course if your selling the hot widget you need to rank with the big boys while its hot.
I am not selling a hot widget, I am selling a micro niche that will last for a couple years. I think my .info domains might do ok with that. I am after long term income, not short term hit it hard type stuff. Havent progressed to that yet. Nice input, lets keep this thread alive. I think there is value here.

I know that a lot of people use .infos for trash domains to blast out emails because they are cheap. Depending on what you are using the site for, a .com is generally more trustworthy from a buyer or reader perspective.

I preferred .com even it costs 1 buck more. info is not top domain anyway.

com cost approximately $10 while info costs around $1 on godaddy..

Now to the point. Search "william shakespeare". Exact search 0.5 million per month.

    Rankings:

    1.wikipedia
    2.bbc
    3 info domain!!
    4.shakespeare.mit.edu
    and the list goes on.

Info domains can rank as easily as any other domain.
The only problem that i know with domains is when you try to rank "co.uk" for example in a local google other than the british. Its not going to happen that easily:p
