I recently purchased a large SEO package from one of better known sellers on the marketplace. I do not have a SSL certificate, nor did I mention https, but the group I purchased the SEO package from threw in a bunch of https urls.

Is there a negative impact or less of an impact on SEO for using https urls without having an SSL certificate?

Do you mean links from https site's, or that your link url is https when you have no ssl?

The link's URL that points to my site is https when my site does not have a ssl certificate.

I used SSL certificate only for our customer for trusting on us. Its one kind of trust sign. Customer can believe that, this site is safe. That's it. :)

If it redirects to the http version, then little to no link power will be lost.

Unfortunately it's not possible to redirect https to http through htaccess with my server.

Can anyone verify if this will affect the power of a backlink using a https link that points to a site without a SSL certificate?

If there is no certificate I think the bad part will be more about firefox and chrome showing screens saying things about your lack of certificate.

the biggest thing to keep in mind is: Google has already said that https is part of the new ranking factors, so if you can afford it, why not get it?

Yeah I know. I considered it when I first launched the site, but it was a huge pain in the ass on the last project to get the redirects to work properly between my CDN & BlueHost. Trying to get BlueHost to help with server side stuff like that is like pulling teeth.

So SSL is a no go with my server, apparently if you already have it setup with a domain through BlueHost and add another there are SNI issues that would prevent all IE users on Win XP from visiting the site. Granted this is likely only 5% of visitors, but I'd rather have my site work for everyone.

So back to my original question. Does anyone know if SE's view https links that point to sites without an SSL certificate any differently? Will there be a negative or less of an impact on SEO from these links?
