Does Google penalize .info domains?

I don't buy .info domains because I can't afford .com or .net or any other TLD but I buy the .info because it's the ONLY TLD left for my keyword. The rest are already registered and I want to optimize my keyword.info domain to be first in Google!

Do you think people would buy .info if this TLD was penalized ? This is the cheaper way or if a .com domain is already taken.
