Does google dance still exist today?

    My site was on page 2, I built some backlinks to it which are kind of spammy. Then my site went to page 5.

    I am wondering if this is the famous google dance, in which a site's position goes down first before it moves it higher. I remember reading somewhere that the google dance does not exist any more.

    Dancing will always exist because Google essentially split tests results and shuffles rank as it measures things day to day... but recently a series of tweaks (by the AI most likely) have caused there to be choppier rankings in many niches. I've heard a few guys complaining of it over the past month and a half.

    But no one else's rankings are affected. So for example the guy who was #2 is still #2, the guy who was #14 is still #14, only mine moved to page 5.

    They might not be laying down links actively, I'm guessing you are linkbuilding. Or it could be the type of links you're laying. Look at them and see what they are doing that you aren't or vice versa.
