Or if not, what would be the best way to promote an affiliate link without getting Google account banned.

make a landing page that has a link to the main company, that's what i do.
you can also track the visits better when they have to go to your page first!

    Hi ,
Good news is ....Yes, It allows unless the display URL you use and the landing page domain name is same.

Better you can go for banner ads from the high traffic sites that are related to your niche or create a landing page (with your affiliated product/service added) and promote it by using both adwords and SEO.
Hope that works well than just adwords.

    Thankyou

my understanding is google won't allow it if the display URL does NOT match the landing page URL. i've had my ads refused for that reason.

Yes.My words jumble out when I get curious.

The display URL and Landing page URL must match.
    Thanks for the correction.

You can surely use your affiliate or CPA links in adwords advertising
But google adwords policy doesn't accept direct link and their destination page. so you need to change it with your domain and redirect the CPA link to your domain or landing page.
Anyway but it's a not a good idea to promote the CPA links. Deliver traffic through a landing page. it's a good idea and it's works well.

I guess for me is that I am not good ay writing, not a good salesmen, and not creative, so I dont think I can make good landing pages. I know basically everything about the coding/programming but I suck at making stuff look good in photoshop.

Anyways, I was a little confused by what you said there. So you said if I'm going to do it then I should just set it to my own domain name? But then just have that redirect over to the offer/affiliate? But then you suggest landing pages in order to have better results?
