I was wondering if the SE's give less authoritative weight to .info domains?

I have some keywords that the .com is not available and I dont know if I should try to add additional words to the keyword to get the .com or if the .info is better with the exact keyword match I am going for.

pretty sure they don't rank .info domains. don't expect it to ever get close to page 1.

You're pretty sure? Because I have a few .info sites that are #1, on page 1. In fact, some of these sites haven't been updated in about 1.5 years when I think of one of them. It's just stuck there, and #1 in MSN, and #4 I think in Yahoo last time I checked its rankings.

I don't seek out to buy .info's but sometimes you just got to get them without making your URL all ugly if you need the seo and vanity factor.

.info have just as much weight as .coms.. but .infos are starting to look spammy even to the average person.

I have .info and on page one. there is nothing involved on tlds. so do not worry about it. just buy what is available and start your website. the only problem is, it is hard to remember the tlds other than .com. if you only depend on SE's for traffic then no worries. am getting 99% of traffic from SE's only. I depend only on SE. so I do not worry about the tld.

i have .infos ranking #1 - however the biggest problem you will find when trying to rank with .infos is if your competition registered a .com months or years before your domain... as google puts emphasis on the age of the domain, generally speaking the .coms will get registered first and become more established...

and true more people tend to click on .coms then .infos as they feel they are more trusted...

it really depends on the type of campaign your implementing

i tend to use .infos for short run campaigns... you will only end up paying full price for them at renewal anyway so your not really saving much $$$ long time, and for the extra $$ you may find yourself putting more effort into ranking...

.info domains can do just fine compared to .com/.nets except in the case already pointed out about domain age.

other than age, they're just as good as the rest, there are TONS of .info's ranking high in serps with proper seo.

    .

..i recall reading somewhere.. g0oGle figures "Site Age" as only 15% of the whole picture when it comes to ranking. thats for both long & competitive keywords.

some encouragement especially for myself: 40% of traffic clicks on page 1 results. Only 10% of traffic click on page 2 :grin1::rolleyes:

Just search google for a few keywords and you'll find very few .info sites in the top 10 results. Go for a .com, .net or .org

That's the most stupidest explain I ever heard.
It absolutely doesn't matter if it's .info .com or .net for ranking. Yeah .info looks spammy cuz they are cheap. Yeah for serious project you will buy .com or .net etc. and everybody thinks like that so it's no wonder there is no many .info domains on page 1. On the other hand people who actually know something about SEO and ranking they have .info domains ranking on page 1 and even position 1. It doesn't matter and people stop think like you are in a stone age. I mean it's 2009 and some SEO myths that are old like few years are still circling around. I mean I bet 90% haven't heard new stuff what Google said about PR sculping etc. and I bet I'll be reading misinformation about that for like next 2-3 years. Come on people, we are not in stone age anymore, if your Google rankings changed when you farted it doesn't mean your farting is a Google ranking factor. Use your brain and don't listen so called "common sense".

just respect his opinion because it is just that, an opinion.

Ive seen .info rank in the first page several times. Though, I'm picky when it comes to searching (using "exact phrase").

.info domains appear to be the new domain of search engine spammers since there is an apparent lack of G00gle aging delay to list and rank them.

In a staurated niche, info domains are pretty useless. But in a hot niche, info domains are worthy much :)

    Its BS

they are no different to a .com

They may indeed take a little longer to rank though, but build enough BL to them and sure enough they will shine...

i think there's no difference for g ranking between .info and .com. I will think .org and .edu might have an effect though? But .info is only cheap for the first year i think, so watch out for the fee in the second year running.

I find new .infos registered for a year will often get sandboxed pretty quickly. .infos that are renewed for more than a year tend to do as well as a .com for me.
