We enter searches almost everyday for example- blackhat, scraper, link blaster, etc, Does g.oogle tag your computer and punish your sites or am i just paranoid lol ? seriously...Most of the days i have my gmail, and analytics account open while i surf around ,and it would be just too easy for G to catch on to this ,and label you as high risk, while sending your sites to the toilet.

If that was the case, bing would be number 1.

It definitely tracks you. Consider an example:

    - Yesterday I searched for hosting a couple of times
    - Today my wife visited babycenter.com from my PC and noticed a huge banner that offered her a hosting plan

Obviously, she bought the hosting instead diapers.

Thats the thing they are tracking indeed. With the use of cookies from your previous visited websites google try's to display as relevent as possible advertisments to visitors. Because imagine you were searching for jeans, and after visiting some websites an offer for some nice jeans with a big discounts pops up on a google advert, you'll be more likely to click it instead of an advert about laptops instead.

If you need a good deal on diapers, then checkout hostgator.

If you are using Firefox. Install the Collusion add on. Then you can see exactly how your info is being shared by each site in real time.

Well it's scheduled to go live in the coming Fall. There will be a new tab on your g+ profile which will show you recent activities around the world wide web.

Not at all. I'm just kidding. Google's resources are simply not enough to track what we do around the web but... It may come true in the future. Bills like SOPA,SISPA are popping up lately. No wonder If another one gets passed on in the name of WWWPA(World Wide Web Protection Act). I wouldn't worry as long as we have another PA to tackle all this.

And the PA I'm talking about is our good old YouTube fame Angry GRAND(PA). :D

    Here's the thing...

everything google does is for PROFIT

There is no other motivation behind their actions.... other than PROFIT

    Yes, they track you.

Do they care that we're using blackhat methods to increase our spot? No... why? Because that means more people are willing to pay for ads.
They have to act like they care so more people can trust them and feel good about paying for advertising...

You search for blackhat stuff, you get close to relevant ads. They want you to click.

One has nothing to do with the other.

Anyways... this is the 15th thread I've seen about this in the 4 months I've been here. They don't care what you search for.

I worked in the ISP business for a long time.

What we did is we would contract with a Targeted Advertisement company, we had 300k+ subscribers, so that company installed their equipment on our network to keep track of the HTTP traffic.

Tracking was done for every one of our customers, without them knowing.

Basically they software "sniff" the network and keep track of the user's IP addresses, ISP Logins and which pages they visit. So they can directly link a user profile to the real details of a user (in the db of the ISP).

They then sell that data to Advertisers and then the ISP get a cut of the profits.

We were making easily 50k a month from this, without lifting a finger.

And you know, those companies that track traffic, if they are ethical, their service could be considered useful.

However, what if they are not ethical? What if they have rogue employees? Your data as a user is in their hands, and most probably you have no idea!

After all, our users didn't really agree to this? There's only a small remark about this in the ToS and Privacy Policies of the ISP, which not many people read.

And what Google is doing now a days, they are installing their own peering links in the networks of the larger ISPs.

Where I worked we had a 10Gbps link installed by google, so all our search and google traffic was going STRAIGHT to them.

Who knows what they do to the traffic.

If there is someone in the game who CAN track you down, its google.

And if you link your sites/accounts using Google WMT/Analytics, you are just making it easier for them. If you get caught for some shady stuff on one of your site, and if that site has some links to other of your sites, and they can work out its yours, you risk losing them all.

I'd say protect yourself. After all, a good part of your money comes from Google, it only makes sense to protect your business, no?
