Can buying fake traffic help a site move up in Google if done correctly along with other basic SEO stuff? Im thinking if I can have the traffic look like its stays on the site for a while it will help with bounce rate. Any thoughts...?

That's an interesting thought about bounce rate. Make this traffic navigate around on your site as well. Make this traffic share your site on their facebook and twitter. Make this traffic comment on your blog posts. You get the idea. Google is getting smarter every day.

Yeah, I was wondering this too since number of visitors counts to Google signals.

I would say it will be a yes provided that:

    it has diversed ip.
time of visit is also diversed - have different length of time in visiting your page.
    number of pages visited.
    os of visitor's computer.
aspect ratio of the visitor's display monitor.

these are just some of the things "GOOGLE ANALYTICS" can see through your site. if you will using other analytics tool, it should also be capable of tracking those things mentioned above.

to sum it up and with my honest belief... no you can't do this if you can't do diversity as mentioned.

***about buying fake traffic, what traffic do you expect then? just to decrease your bounce rate? here are some things that makes your visitor stay on your site longer.

    1. create quality content - nothing beats that.
    2. insert a 1 minute video about the topic, better yet choose a little funny video.
    3. insert some sexy gif on your sidebars like a twitter follow or fb like animated gifs
    4. give some little quizzes that let's your visitor think while he/she is in your site.
    5. offer something good but before giving it to him or her, let them solve a problem or give thoughts through comments or fake idea boxes.

those are some of the things which i apparently use.

you should expect at least 70% bounce rate and that should be fine. :) By the way, adsense clicks can also make your bounce rate higher. So don't panic if your bounce rate is high. Maybe you're also panicking about your high adsense earnings??? (give some to me!) lol :)

My opinion, no. I'm still waiting for someone to prove to me that a lower bounce rate actually improves SERP.

not sure about this but can tale u from my experience..

i got 100K visitors drip the provider (fiverr) did great job deliver
alexa rank got less then 2mil but bounce rate was 97%

i stooped it and alexa rank got up to 5mil...
but since i stop it all my SEO got easy and ranking KW was easy not to mantion KW i already worked one hit first page when bounce rate got under 60% (took it 3 weeks) and page view got up from 1-2 sec to 6-10 min.
sales go up, more commuters return.. etc

i guess it was good when i start to make buzz around the site but for long run it looks bad

like ppl say here Google not stupid high bounce rate = not good

Time spent on site matters, and it will matter more every day, its a vote for quality. person puts in x keyword, spends 3 seconds on four sites then spends 4 mins on your, its a vote that that is the best content for X keyword, its the future man. Backlinks will die, is my opinion, I mean they will matter, but the top spots will be run by a separate algo, my two cents, its only logical. Google is going more and more toward social proof, etc and tweaking their algo to spot natural vs unnatural link patterns right?

Well next step is to mod the algo to track quality of content by time spent on site and return rate, vs bounce rate for the bigger slots,

    its a commmmming
