Okay, so take this for example:

Keyword - Large Refrigerators
Search Volume (USA) - 4,400
Domain - LargeRefrigerators.com (EMD)

What do you guys think should I buy this domain and try to build a niche site on this EMD?
The price I am buying it at is $149

The price seems expensive if It is brand new domain. If it is expired domain with good backlink profile then the price is decent.

No backlinks.

I think EMD work, at least because of the added CTR. For $149 it's a no-brainer.
But for good CTR, it should rank first and I am just playing on it being an EMD, that it will be able to rank on itself?

You'll rank for longtails and it hopefully carry more power toward the main one. I really think that CTR is more important than most think, because its power is double.

Doubling any other ranking factor (at leats its score inside the algo) will slowly improve the ranking, but doubling the CTR will slowly improve the ranking while doubling the traffic you get immediately.

Looks like a good deal. Should rank #1 easily at some point on its own.

I guess it can rank since for the keyword

I would not buy that. I don't see any value in EMD nowadays and you could always make an slight difference and it would have worked the same like "bestlargerefrigerations.com" for 1/10th the price

EMD's are great for local niches, but I wouldn't get this domain and expect to rank easily for the head term.

I'm currently building a single word EMD, and after 3 months, almost 200 posts and off page branding, I'm still not in the top 100.

I'd go for something brandable, but with the same keyword context... A quick look and "blimpchiller.com" works.

Blimpchiller is not even close to the same as large refrigerators when it comes to SEO and emd.

I'd only buy broader domain names instead of EMD
If it's an aged domain with a strong foundation, it will rank for the most part.

I have an EMD but last page of google because my nich is so competitive.. it helps if there are no competition but if alot of people are doing it.. backlinks rule

EMD works for some niches and for some niches, it doesn't.

Better check the SERPs around your niche to see if any EMD is ranking in the top 10 or not.
