I'm thinking about embedding YouTube videos in my reviews blog that I'm trying to rank.

Two questions: Will Google view this as duplicate content and thus hurt me in my ranking attempts and will having an embedded YT video leak link juice or otherwise hurt my ranking attempts?

P.S. Yes the video I intend to use is from my own YouTube account and is my own.

    :dunce:

duplicate content dosn't really work like that. Duplicate content just confuses Googlebot because it dosn't know which one to rank. If the video adds to the discussion of your review post - by all means embed it in there.

So does embedding the youtube video make it harder to rank the blog, right? Or not really?

And is there a way I can make google blind to the video, or it doesn't see it and count it as duplicate content? Thanks btw!

Embedding the video is not duplicate content unless you duplicate it across your entire site. Even then the impact in negligible, if any. Providing the video is on-topic and people watch it, your bounce rate may drop causing a rise in your search positions.

Adding video to pages on my sites has always added valuable content for the end user and helped to rank the pages in my opinion.

I have NEVER had any problems with embedded Youtube videos. They do add to the "user experience" of your site and Google loves that.

Cool, because the fact that Google essentially owns YouTube made me nervous that they might be protective of YT content and give a duplicate penelty to those who embed in a similar way to how they would give a duplicate penalty to photos you display off Google Images.

I honestly have always had the opposite of what your original view was. I mean that the only reason NOT to embed a relevant video on a page is because I am being lazy, not because I was afraid it was going to hurt anything. They give the embed codes for that explicit reason. One thing that a youtube embed has going for it is that google already knows what the video is all about so if you are throwing that video in with your content and it matches up, google is like, "hey, good job man, ur doin it rite, LOL"... or something to that effect :D

Ah, well it sounds like embedding YouTube videos is pretty much SEO safe then. That's a relief... thx.
