Does Domain Privacy affect SEO?

I'm about to register some domains for some organic sites, all white-hat. I thought I remembered hearing somewhere that having a private domain has a negative effect on rankings?

Is this correct? If so is it that big a deal, or do the benefits of having private registration outweigh any SEO penalties?

I don't think so, SEO won't be affected by guarding/hiding domain's privacy.

nope... google only interested in the domain age portion of the whois info.
