Whether talking about a FB or non-FB page, can buying Likes be enough to make it go viral?

I know it's not that easy, that there are many other factors involved.

But if you get everything else right, can buying some likes really do it i.e. be enough to launch a viral campaign?

I'm tempted to buy some from here or fiver for a generic page of mine that I think has mass appeal...

I don't think so. The fans aren't real so they don't engage in any activity such as liking photo's or clicking your links.

    Yes, it does...

I set up a page called "Social Media Marketing"

Let it sit for about 8 months and nothing happened. Bought a few thousand likes, got it ranked (not it is number 2 in fb search for that keyword phrase)

I am now getting interaction and organic likes (and sales)

Well, it really depends on what your page is about, if its something everyone can enjoy / think positive about and it starts to go "mini-viral" it can go viral (I guess).

I can never find anybody selling actual Genuine real likes. Its always people saying their real, then providing you with obviously fake profiles that never interact in any way. I think maybe buying a status update from a page that isnt spammed to hell might be the better route to go.

From my experience, no. However, it may be relative to the niche and keywords you target. Plus, most huge packages are fake followers

Kudos for your success but that is not viral marketing. What you have done is used likes to get it ranked in the FB search engine.

This is a good example of ranking through social proof.

Viral marketing takes its name from a virus, because of the ability to spread rapidly. For a good example of a viral campaign, think back to Jenny the Dry Erase girl. People (well, mainly guys) wanted to share it because she was hot and it was funny (even if it was obvious to a trained marketing eye it was viral campaign). This is not just something that people wanted to share with 'likes' ... they would have tweeted about it, they would have talked about it by the water cooler at work and they would have told their friends about it on the weekend.

So can buying likes make something go viral? No. Few people care how many have liked something previously once they arrive at a page (though how many people have liked it may have influence the journey to get there as shown with GiftGuru's example). What makes something go viral is 'shareability' (Jenny) or even social pressure (Kony 2012).

In order for something to "get viral" it has to be seen.

In order for you to "be seen" on fb, you have to stuff the numbers so you get on top of fb search

Here is the real deal. The Internet is the worlds largest popularity contest. Nobody likes people who nobody likes, so get a few likes in order to get a few more. Make sense?
Ever walk into a shop after they just open and notice that they already have money in the tip jar? That's because the people working there put money from their own pocket (or the till) into the tip jar in order to convince people that they should tip becuase somebody else already did. It's THE SAME with social networking. Once you have some momentum, it's easy to keep up: SO GET THAT BALL ROLLING...

    yeah, I agree

Unless people have seen your fanpage, how can they like it

Social proof also works, As a facebook user, if I know that your fanpage has been liked by 10,000 people, I would trust your fanpage more compared to one which has 5 likes

and then, I would also be interested in liking the fanpage, but yes, it should have interesting posts !
