So I was wandering around some SERPs for valuable keywords and I found a #1 ranked site that caught my attention.

I checked it out and it was registered here https://publicdomainregistry.com/

Which made me wonder, does anyone still pay $35 for a new .com?

Is there an advantage to it? Does the whois spread faster, is DNS faster? Why would anyone pay 35 bucks for a new .com domain name on this day and age?

I don't think its SERP had anything to do with the registrar. Or did it?

I definitely agree that this is some kind of scam preying on people who don`t know the real value of their domains.

I own thousands of domains and I can assure you I used every coupon code possible.
$0.99±$0.18(icann fee) =$1.17 total for a fresh hand reg.
There is no reason other than noob or as stated above register owned or brokered the Doman.

Take any item and place it in front of the right people and they will pay a lot more for it. Some people just don't shop around
so at that point its just a numbers game for these companies.

    Yes and many other trades.
    I'm a serialpreneur.

There are people who don't know how or have the money to burn. Also it's a tax write off for the company.

    ZERO renewal codes avaliable.
Transfer your domains to Uniregistry which comes out to $8.88
If you have more than one hundred domains try reaching their customer support and ask for a bulk discount. :)

Network solutions is the fourth largest domain registrar in the world and they charge $20 usd for a .com registration.
It is also the oldest, so maybe people have been their clients for a long time and doesn't even bother to compare or they don't care.

When you're #1 you can try any price you like. People are lazy and $35 isn't a lot of money when you are buying that one domain for your 'new venture and I'm gonna leave my 9-5 job and become a zillionaire floptreprenuer .com owner....selling shit Aloe Vera products...and then realise the website is shit and have to buy business cards to let people know what your domain is''.

Amazing how many spammer domain invoices come through when you're approaching renewal time, when no privacy involved.
Offering to renew your domain for $60, the email is in the form of an invoice lookalike format.
