I don't know if there's an official name for it. You know... "hot or not", "rate my car", "rate my poo", etc... Do these sites perform well in terms of ad revenue? I have a potential niche I think I could promote well (I'm a fan of user-generated content sites) , but I don't know if "rate it" sites are worth it to begin with. If so, any potential script that's considered 'optimal'? Whats the difficulty of running a site like that? Basically just looking for opinions of anyone that has experience in these kinds of sites. Thanks. :)

I am currently running one site. The best script i have found so far is Miphoto and K-rate.
Both are about $100. There are no working nulled version's of K-rate that i can find. I had a nulled version of Miphoto but it is buggy so you need the newest version of it.

If need be, I got the cash to invest. I'm just wondering if it's worth it. How do you monetize it? Is it fairly easy to maintain? What are some problems one could expect?

I dont know about ad revenue. I am still in the google sandbox. Yes it is pretty easy to maintain. You just have a couple clicks to approve and disapprove photos. I havent really ran into any problems so far. I am only averaging about 100 uniques a day though.

running a site like that is easy, the most difficult part is monetizing it. I've found that cpa banners do much better than adsense for these types of sites.
