Was browsing the site yesterday and was thinking about it. Maybe a good opportunity for offline marketing?

Yeah, I've made money there. Great for offline money making. I know several people making good money from it. Set up a group, arrange events/meetings/seminars etc, get paid, go to the bank. I always use it as a site for inspiration for finding niches as well.

I make about 300 dollars from my meet up from people donating and what not. Its very easy to make cash from the site.

Thanks, does anyone else have any ideas about this.

Hey I've made money with Meetup.com

I guess it depends on whether you want to hold meetings in real life or not and if you're actually interested in a certain topic as to whether it makes sense to pursue financially.

The NY TECH meetup for example has 13,000 members - somewhat unusual - but they charge $10 to attend a meeting and usually about 700-1000 people pay. Thats a CRAPLOAD of money to get every month of a year.

Like, you could live off that.

Personally I wouldn't go to a meetup group if I knew the organizer had my email address. I think it should be up to the organizer to obtain their members' email addresses at a meetup with a sign up sheet. That way anyone who feels uncomfortable can opt out.

Wow, I didn't know you could charge for meetings! Doing seminars and whatnot is a great idea, though, especially if you don't have a lot of competition locally. :scratchch
