    Hi all,

I have been learning the art of SEO for a while now and although I have finally managed to get some really good rankings, approximately 2 years ago, my site is not getting anywhere near the traffic that it should do, according to Google Analytics or any other keyword tool.

For example, if you type in 'ear plugs' or 'earplugs' into google, I am number 1 in the UK and either 1 or 2 on .com. This should in theory attract over 100K searches per month but in reality, my traffic has been a consistent 5k each month.

I know that not everyone should click on my site but if you consider that I am ranking as well as I am, surely I should be getting a lot more visitors that that?

Does anyone have any idea why this is the case? Could it be that my site is being hijacked or something ?

Sorry, the site is all about earplugs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks. Pari.

Your KW has a Adwords tool search of
    25k a month (Globally) [Exact]
6.6k a month (Locally) for UK.
    12.1k a month (locally) for the U.S.

This leaves around 6300 visitors from other regions.

AOL has stated there is a 42.13% of all click-thrus for the #1 position in SERP.
Higher percentages of click thrus are at 53.36%, provided by Eyetrack and around 35% provided by Chikita.
We all know the first position falls in a range between 30-70% varies due to the nature of the given statistics, keyword and your title/description 'copy'/meta description.

If you factor into these accounts, yes you fall in the right range of traffic.

We know that Adwords tool does NOT provide total accurate data but a general broad view on statistics. You must remember that.

There were some KWs that I researched using a more reliable method using PPC/Adwords run (30 days) to see how many impressions I've gotten with specific keywords.
Since Adwords search results uses an yearly median, it is actually more difficult to average out the exact number of monthly searches (because of holidays, trends, etc...) Results? The numbers were broad. Some keywords were similar in numbers and some were way off. But my general consensus is that the numbers we're usually more exaggerated than anything. (Numbers in Adwords were greater than they actually were).

    In conclusion:
Your traffic is fine. As a matter of fact you are getting more traffic then expected if someone were to research that keyword.

Your keyword is around 6.6k for UK and you're getting 5k /month (which means you are ranking for other countries as well. Global Search results (25k/m) is not relevant in your case because you do not rank for your keyword in the U.S. as far as I can tell, so you should eliminate a good portion and you should not expect more. This means that if you factor into account the #1 SERP click thru rate you have are ranking in other countries as well, which would account for the high traffic (5k / m) you are receiving.
Yes I said high traffic, because with the expected click thru rate and adwords search data, you should only expect around 3.9k at the most (given you rank #1 for your Keyword for UK only).

Why? The Exact searches are 6.6k a month (Locally) for the UK. Divide that by 50% (CTR for 1st Place in SERP as an example) and you would have 3.3k a month people visiting his site if you follow a 50% CTR) He is NOT ranking for the U.S so 'Global' results do not apply, only Local.
