Does anyone else use its Instagram that way?

Hi everyone!

I am new to Instagram (joined in October) and I have reached 1.8k followers (I only follow 60 people, right now). I've never used bots or anything, just doing a lot of liking and commenting using hashtags of my specific niche, so hopefully, my followers are genuinely interested in what I post.

Concerning my photos, I have decided to post only one photo every week (each Monday) because I want to give it time to get as many likes as possible. So, by doing this, when I first post a photo, I originally get around 250 followers to like it, but by waiting for a week to post something new, that photo ends up getting way more likes, as I keep interacting with new people all the time, liking photos of my specific niche. These people end up on my profile and start liking whatever they like, some of them might just hit like on everything as I only have 25 nice and unique photos, as of now. Some of the photos have already surpassed 1k likes (the most popular is at 1347 likes) and more of them are approaching the 1k likes, as we speak.

I think what I do is good, because I don't want my best photos burried after a while. I prefer having less photos and give the chance to possible new followers to see and like as many as possible, since Instagram does not give you the option to categorize or re-organize them. And when people check your account and see all those likes, they are even more tempted to follow you, I guess.

Also, while I wait for the next week to post my next photo, I'm out and about photographing and collecting possible shots, growing my photo library, so that I have many options to choose only the best one ( seriously, I might get 200 shots of something and still not be satisfied, kinda psycho I know )

So, I'd like to ask, is anyone else doing this? If so, have they noticed people getting bored by the inactivity of the account and unfollowing often? Even if that's the case, I am still not sure I want to post more often, because I'm sick of profiles that have 500-600 or more posts that you never get to see them all, even if you might want to.

That's interesting. I have seen some accounts do this. Few pics and less posting frequency. It has worked for me in some niches on Twitter. A couple of weekly (highly informative 100% unique) Tweets got me a lot more followers. In other scenarios (Like news Twitter accounts) the frequency had to be a lot higher. I am guessing the same is true for Instagram.

Since IG is only pictorial content, it's easier to browse than say FB where you have to read a lot. Personally i don't mind accounts posting a lot as long as they are posting interesting stuff. If they only post a selfie everyday with a different pose then it's unfollow land for them.

However in his case it's highly targeted followers. in IG's eyes it's a naturally growing account as well.

Waiting a week to post a photo is too long. By that time, your followers will think you aren't active and may just ignore or unfollow you. It is great that you interactive with your followers. This will keep them on your list.

I would post at least one a day. 2 days max.

Hm, I don't consider it bad, since I'm doing it all on my own with no bots, shoutouts or any other techniques.

I'm not willing to become Insta Famous or anything, nor am I willing to use it to make profit off of it, I only do this for the sake of fun!
I'd be satisfied with around 3k followers. After that, it starts becoming harder to keep up with your followers and like their posts back when they like something etc, it loses the community "feeling"... It's important for me to keep it personal, because then I'd get bored of it, what's the point if everything is automated?

All I want to know, is if there are people who only post once or twice a week and they still get their audience interested in what they post!

Sorry, it means I understood you wrong. If u're doing it for fun, yes, it's okay. I thought u want to monetize your followers...u can't do anything with 1.8k

Haha, oh I see, it was my fault that I didn't make it clear from the beginning!
After all, this sub-forum is mostly about finding ways to monetize your account, from what I've seen Thanx

what you are doing is what you should do on a personal account, reaching a X amount of likes on a pic means nothing, its too bad you cant see how many people have seen your photo's. But the main point is people seeing your content.
and as commenter #1 said, 1.8k in 2 months is bad, really bad. No offense. If you want your account to grow, buy a bot and shoutouts. Will help so much.
