Does anyone know if having a Gateway Wizard on a site will effect its organic rankings in Google?

Gateway Wizard is when your website is locked, and a person has to fill out a survey, etc. in order to get access to your site's content, and you get paid per lead.

Has anyone done this and seen the traffic continuously rise or stay the same without any backlashes from lowered Google rankings?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing.

If the link/button to the gateway page was "norefer" and php? then i don't think the spiders would follow. Not 100% on this though.

edit robots.txt and do not allow SE's spiders to access the page where your gateway is installed.

It shouldn't change as it is javascript and Google does not read Javascript (supposedly)

I think a more accurate way to put it would be: Google reads javascript, but does not interpret it. eg. they can probably pick out bare urls and fingerprint known bh scripts, but are unlikely to execute anything or act upon any variables.

I personally have not noticed any thing different ranking wise after implementing a gateway, but I'm beginning to worry about the common footprint that the big g may one day decide it no longer likes..

    Grizzy,

Where exactly in wordpress to you paste the script for the gateway wizard? Is it in the footer?

On any site it always goes in between <head> and </head> tags. So if I want to use it on a WP blog I would edit the header.php for the particular theme I am using and paste the code in there.

I just recently installed a CPA gateway on my site 5 days ago, and now it's not ranked on google :|
It's been on the first page for a long time. I'll give it some more time to see if it comes back.

I am using it and it is not affecting my site... I even saw a site which was ranking for some keyphrase of Iron Man 2... dunno what was it but his site had got more then 350k visitors in very short period for watching full movie and he was ranking no 1... So if Big G is keeping some site to 1st rank in very competitive and hot keyword even after gateway then i don't think it will affect your site...

Other things may affect it so digg further LOL

I should also mention that I removed @dsense as well. I added it back on. We'll see what happens. In fact my site has been wiped from google. Maybe @dsense didn't like that I removed their ads. If anyone experienced something like this please enlighten.

I think (please correct me if I am wrong) the time it take when the content is locked is very important. For example if it is 30 seconds then it should not effect at all. But if it is 0 second then it may or may not.

Only an SEO expert can give right answer.
