Over the past three weeks I've created about five videos for various local terms. I've targeted keyword with as little competition as I can find (no exact-match other than Yelp) and a minimum search volume of "10-100". They keyword usually look like "keyword [suburb] [state]" I've done a livestream for all of these videos and bought some popular embed/social services for $5 or $10 on Source Market.

Although these videos end up on the second page after the initial livestream, the embeds and social signals simply do not seem to make any difference. I've got zero improvement in rankings for these videos from their original positions on the second page, and on some occasions the rankings have actually gone down. The videos act like the embeds/signals don't exist at all.

This leads me to think that Google doesn't like to rank videos for local terms, and I'm better off using an exact-match domain and PBN links.

Can someone chip in with their experience?

I tried exactly the same as you with the exact same results. But what i did after that worked. I created live streams but linked them to a facebook page also with the name of the local search term. And after i linked about 4 or 5 videos with my facebook page, the page finally ranked on number 5. The search volume was about 1000 a month.

Wow thank you! That's some really good results. I think this pretty much says that Google doesn't want to rank a video for a local term, because why would it? A text-based results would obviously be much more helpful for the searcher. I think this wasn't the case just a year ago -- must have been a recent change.

But YouTube videos still have value as backlinks for parasites! That's a really interesting approach, I'll definitely be trying that. :)

Yes, since the videos do still rank on 2nd page they have a quite good blacklink value, thats what i expected and at the end prooved to be true. But keep in mind that i do SEO for google.de the german Google which is a lot easier then ranking english terms cause of the larger competition.

Hmm right. But I think a lot would depend on the competition of the keyword itself. It's possible to find low competition keywords in the US too.

Also, may I know how long it took for your Facebook page to rank on the first page, after creating the links?

I've just created a Wordpress.com parasite for my keyword and it showed up on the second page as soon as it got indexed in a few hours. This looks good. I've streamed five videos (all of them on the 2nd or 3rd page) and linked them to the page, and I'm wondering how long it will take before the rankings improve.
