    You've got a website HalloweenCostumes.com and you want to rank for two terms, halloween costumes for adults and halloween party costumes. You've got a category page HalloweenCostumes.com/adults/ for multiple adult costume ideas, and you've got HalloweenCostumes.com/party-costumes as a category page for costumes. Do you try to rank these category pages, maybe also add a description to the category, or do you make new pages like HalloweenCostumes.com/best-adult-costumes and HalloweenCostumes.com/best-party-costume and rank those?

    What you are striving for is editorial content. When you run an online store the easiest way to do this is to run a separate blog on a different domain that captures the spirit of the content. Put your listicles and custome tutorials etc on the blog and then used sponsored stories on facebook to promote them... then advertise your store and costumes in the posts.

    It is a great route to go because in time you are developing a powerful marketing asset and building a strong social strategy that will boost your SEO at the same time.

    Hey man, yeah what you can do is easily possible.

    I always use categories for my pages, but the way I do it is slightly different. I work in local seo, so my categories is my region, then the post/sub-category is my city, then on some i'll have another one off that for small towns and villages.

    so domain.com/region-cat/city-sub-cat/town-post

    turn your categories into pages by adding this to your functions:

    function wpa_alter_cat_links( $termlink, $term, $taxonomy ){
    if( 'category' != $taxonomy ) return $termlink;

    return str_replace( '/category', '', $termlink );
    }
    add_filter( 'term_link', 'wpa_alter_cat_links', 10, 3 );
    endif;

    Then add a page with the same slug as your cateogory - so you would have a page: /adult-outfits/ and a category: /adult-outfits/ for this to work. Then when you make a post under your category it'll be /adult-outfits/Halloween-female

    Failing to plan, is a plan to fail.

    What if the website is simply product reviews, an affiliate site? (So, no e-commerce.) Everything under the category /best-adult-costumes would be posts like "Best Adult Cat Costumes" and "Sexy Superhero Costumes?" The /best-adult-costumes/ page would consist of post 150 char excerpts, like usual.

    Do people search for "best adult costumes"? if so they rank it... if they don't, then I wouldn't bother, just a normal category page would be fine.

    I'll focus on the main keywords, create category pages with those two keywords, go about writing as many articles as possible on the niche, and put them under one of the two categories that is most suitable to the context of the article.
