Do you think torrenting your own music is a good way to gain fans?

I am a musician and have for years used torrent sites to promote my music. It's tough for me to tell if it's made much of a difference in my popularity giving away my music for free through torrents. Do you think there is a certain medium/site aside from the piratebay that I should be looking at?

Myspace and youtube. Torrents, people have to be looking for you. With Myspace, Youtube, people will link to you or subscribe, this does not happen with torrents. I would say you are more than likely wasting your time with torrents.

True. OP, Try the soundcloud and reverbnation as well.

thanks guys. i have all of those types of accounts already. i suppose i just need a better way to promote to people who don't already know my music. maybe keywords for the torrents.

It might be able to work! Try mixing your music with other well known artists. Basically crating your own mixtape with a voice over(DJ), screaming your artists name and promoting your music.

If people are looking for these torrents they would have to know you already. I say try youtube to market your music and boost your videos.

I say it's a good idea as long as you put in the torrent info keywords what your music sounds like, such as popular bands they might be already looking for.
