You find a product let's say "Panavision 3D", you register a domain name with the keywords.

Then you start working on SEOing the domain name until it's on top 10 on google, which is not that hard to do.

Or course you are not going to market "ipad 2"... which is almost impossible to get there. Instead market expensive products that are not so known.

Then you contact the company and explain them that you have this domain name or site ranking well in google when people search for their product and you can sell them the site.

I'm still in the process of testing this, but has anyone experience with this method?

Maybe it's an old method but I don't see too much people talking about it.

    Any ideas? :)

    Hi,

IMHO you should first contact a potential client, say you can get them on the top for a particular keyword and ask if they are interested. Otherwise you could do some work without getting paid. Contacting potential leads based on product niches I find a very good idea.

You need to watch out for trademark infringement. They will try and shut you down. You also should be careful of copyright infringement if you use their images without their permission. I wouldn't waste my time with big companies. If you want to do it, do it with local businesses or just promote an affiliate offer for the same product through amazon or ebay or something.

Just be careful of using trademarked names as your domain name.

That's a great way of getting sued if the domain has a trademarked term in it.

OUCH! Really? Is it that easy to get sued for that?

I see so many sites and domains using known terms and I don't see them getting sued and taken down.

Did you ever had this problem or any threat from any real company? Or is it just a rumour?

I think the theory itself sounds plausible but why not just do the same thing with an affiliate product, then when you move some product you can contact the owner and see if you can work out a better deal.

if you're gonna put a lot of work into it, make sure it's lawyer proof, so they can't claim the domain from you

Oh it's no rumor. The majority of these sites don't tend to stay up for long. Once they reach the first page it's only a matter of time before they see the site.

This happens in the movie and the niche all the time. Just because you are small fry doesn't mean you won't get sued.

Don't let that scare you. Just be sure you are not using a trademark in the root domain name.

Most of the time product will have trademark registered and you are going against it... I will not suggest you to do so, You could use your resource some where else which will bring more money and less tension...

The only issue is that this law is in full effect for copyright infringment. So even if you try and contact them, the company is going to say: great you have awsome traffic and youre infringing on our trademarks. If they make case of it, theyre 100% going to win. Your strategy for ranking is good, you just may need a different approach to profit.
