if we will get to the point where google refuses to index 99% of the content that exists then indexing services will most likely not even exist anymore because the 1% of webmasters that can index something will probably keep the methods to themselves.

Absolutely, In Recent days google doesn't properly index, and we are facing a lot of issues, so sure SEO's next big impact and things for the future.
Yes, google taking more time than before for indexing. So, this could be the next trending one in SEO.
They've been a big thing in the SEO field for at least the last 2 years. Before that, mass pinging and guestbook spamming was pretty much all you needed.
Not a big thing but we will still need it.
Any current indexing issues may be due to Google's tech folks experimenting on "steroid levels" resulting in indexing related bugs. So, at the moment we may not be able to know if indexing would be the next big thing as a service within SEO.
But, no doubt that indexing is critial in SEO. A FEW of the many important things to look out for towards inexing are : avoid duplicate content, create mobile friendly webpages, proper page speed, produce new content on a regular basis (Google crawlers love it), effective internal linking.

If your content is natural, then you should have no indexing problems (even with new websites). You can also submit URLs via Google Search Console.
So, we should give more focus to learning this aspect first instead of SEO?

Link indexing is already a big thing in SEO, not for low quality blogs but for the backlinks.
Indexing services have been around since many years. While I know they are a required thing to have, I don't think they will be the that NEXT BIG thing in future.
