Ok, so my dad has been writing and performing poetry for ever 10 years, he has been writing a book for about a year, He has over 250 pages for his book so far. Everything is original content. He has performed in front of large audience's from schools to local events. His natural talent has captured the attention of celebritys on twitter, thats now following him. I spoke with him and tried to persuade him to create a blog or website and publish his poems on the internet instead of writing a book. He has maxed out over 5,000 organic friends on facebook, and has over 20,000 followers on twitter. If I publish his poems on the internet and create a typography video for each poem under the written poem, that'll be unique. By placing ads on over 250 unique poems. Lets do some math

250 unique pages x's 10 visitors on each page per day = 2,500 visitors per day x's 30 days = 75,000 unique visitors every month
250 unique pages x's 50 visitors on each page per day = 12,500 visitors per day x's 30 days = 375,000 unique visitors every month

Lets pause for a sec. This content is not some regular roses are red violets are blue poems. This content is about real life situations that we go through in life everyday and my father has a track record of amazing the audience.

Okay, so we know the possibility of traffic, So now is the hard part. I need someone that does good typography, so that every post of his poems I publish will have a typeography video to go with it, so that the audience can hear how the words are expressed in writing.

Do you think i'tll be smarter to write continue to write the book or begin to publish his poems on the. My reason of asking is because i believe more people are likely to read some information on the web then to read a book, plus, whats the chances the book will go viral as much as a website could organic
    summary -
    250 pages and still going
adsense placed strategically on the website
place typography video on each poem to watch, hear and feel how it was written. Note- ads will be placed on videos also

after each video is published. It will be posted to all his social networks.

Organic traffic will be applied only

Thank you everyone for reading my post. Im interested in knowing whats your opinion on my outlook. Do you see the potential. Any Ideas, thoughts or leads will be great. Is this possible. Speak your mind

Is the book a collection of poems?

Not sure how feasible this ideas is. Do you think there is a target market for this online?

I recently came across a concept called as BLOGGING A BOOK, your idea seems to be exactly the same as 250 poems can easily be summed up into a poem book.

My suggestion is, GO FOR IT - there's nothing to loose in terms of cash investment ... even if it fails you would know web development, SEO etc much better than you do now =)

Do both! We can rent videos but often by them anyway if we like them, why not the same for poetry?

Also why dont you shoot some vids of him reciting his poems, then get youtube traffic/revenue too?

Great idea. Definitely go for it, and you could probably use some CPM ads to get some extra revenue. Keep us updated on your progress btw

would he not be better publishing his book on kindle.

If you put all his work out there on the net he has nothing left to sell. I would build him a site. I would follow your plan but only publish about five poems....make the videos and promote them heavily as you suggested and make sure there is a clear way for people to purchase the kindle version if they want more.

Most important thing is to do what your dad wants and what is in his best interests this is his lifes work we are talking about. It may seem non profitable but old school writers that have never been published just dream about seeing their hardback on the coffee table.

I would try and get him going on kindle though. Even if he released a small selection of collected works just to get the ball rolling.

Don't get stuck on Adsense earnings, you can make this project as large as you'd like...
Put maybe 25 poems up at launch.
Release a new poem every few days, to every week, depending on how long you want to draw out the project.
Give each poem its own page, with a typography video (make sure to change styles each poem to keep it fresh), maybe with your dad doing a voiceover reading the poems.
Have an info collection box on each page where you collect emails to "send out notifications of when a new poem goes live". You can use this list also to market poetry related items.
Make an e-book out of all the poems, sell the "Complete Collection, with updates"(all current poems, ability to DL updated version when new poems are released) on the website as well.
Pre-sell a hardcover copy of the book, with a "pre-launch" price that's equal to slightly more than whatever it would cost to get the book printed if you got, say 1000 copies or w/e is reasonable. Slowly raise this price over time as you reach your printing goals.
Get T-Shirt designs done based on a line or two, or the theme from the most popular poems. +Mugs, pens, notebooks, w/e

If you really want to, go ahead and throw adsense on there as well, but if your dad really has an organic facebook and twitter following as large as you say already, I think adsense would marginalize your potential profit from a website.

Have your site, use that content wisely and promote other poetry books within the page.
If people love your dad's poems they will be a lot more likely to purchase any other books you decide to sell.

Adsense won't make you wealthy. For serious money with Adsense, you need to do research for high paying keywords and those poems do not target any specific keyword. I didn't fully read your post, I just skimmed through it, the best way to monetize what you have is to actually sell the book, physically and digitally. You can also recruit bunch of affiliates to promote the ebook but really, this does not sound like a big plan. I'd suggest you go through a different career as you don't want to depend on your dad.

    Hey OP

You have received some great reply posts but what Duffers offers is one of the best!

Let me tell you why - Duffers is street wise businessman and I mean that in the most respectful way...

He thinks about money while at the same time addressing any negative issues in pursuit of green $$$$

Personally I follow folks who know how to make green Duffers is one of those guys:cool:

Lol thanks, you never lied about how old school writers love dream about seeing their hardback. Thanks for the advice, i was going extreme trying to pressure my father to publish all 250 poems on the internet and place ads. Your idea seems more logical how he wants it done, thanks

Speaking as an old school poet, who is probably similar in age to your father, I would let him write the book. I've written two poetry books myself and while they don't sell shyt, they do satisfy my desire to see something in print.

The website can be built, as you state, but let him publish the book. I'd also look into stripping the recordings and creating either a podcast or an album that he can upload to ITunes as well.
