With Twitter and Fan pages people are building much larger lists in shorter amounts of time and less money. Going Viral is something traditional email lists just can't do.

Am I saying that emails lists are out dated? No.

But I see them as possibly becoming less effective..

I have a list of about 2000 people. I never marketed much to them, but they all came from product purchases of various ebooks.

I feel like if I really wanted to I could build a fan page much much faster and it could be niche related and cheaper to build.

I don't know.. just some thoughts, how do you feel?

With email marketing you own the traffic, it can't be taken away from you, unlike social networks, you never know what might happen with them.

I received an email notification, about this thread which read, "Do think listing building is dead...." I thought to myself.. heck no!!

haha come to find out I was the author of the thread lol.. I must have been having a moment when I posted that. I've since went on to build massive lists since... list building will probably never die, the medium may change but not the function..

Please forgive me, I should've realized how sensitive you people are before making my post.
