Something I've been trying to figure out is how profitable are niche ecommerce websites when you have Amazon taking over the majority of ecommerce traffic?

Any ecommerce website owners here and do you think you can still make a living off it with high rankings?

    Thanks

Amazon does dominate but there is still room for the little fella. Just don't only worry about rankings, use social media etc to get traffic. never put all the eggs in one basket as the saying goes

I wouldn't try to compete with Amazon with any popular mainstream products, but while they have a huge inventory, they aren't experts in many smaller niches. Example: Costumes. Amazon certainly has a lot of them, but if you are looking for something specific, in a specific style and quality, you quickly end up on other websites and not Amazon. Personal experience from last week.

Agreed with it. For attracting visitors to your Online store, social media is one place where you can get buyers from. Sites like facebook, twitter, Pinterest has millions of visitors daily you can easily get handsome amount visitors to your site if you have an attractive niche like mobile accessories, Men and women fashion etc. Because of the fact, people looking for new and the best. You never know you could be the next to amazon.

Yes, you can. Your success will be based on the way you market your products. Do it through content marketing, which Amazon doesn't do very well.

People wouldn't be investing in, or talking about Ecommerce if it wasn't still profitable.

    Go get your piece!

If you can get the suppliers and the meet the orders you will be fine. Ive seen companies grow in under 12 months and other flop. Just keep at it and have a strong business plan. Do not go into business going I want to sell "this product" cheapest and realize your braking even and eating up any chance of any profit. Marketing is key. It is hard but who said making money was easy to start with? Money makes money so get enough talking about it, begin.
