While there are huge tensions growing between different countries, people in power from countries like India and US (backed by big Corporates) are utilizing this opportunity for their own good by trying to kill competition as a strategy in the name of protecting people's privacy.

In my opinion, If the real reason is to protect people's privacy, the first app they should have banned is 'Google', and the list is huge.

On the other hand, it's interesting and inspiring to see non-profit organizations like FSF (Free Software Foundation), raising their voices demanding the following,
  • We demand transparency in process of banning apps
  • We demand proper Data Protection Laws for the nation
  • We stand against Monopoly
  • We stand against Buyout or Killing Competition as a strategy
  • We stand for Digital Rights and demand proper handling of data without it being transferred to a Monopoly

Sometimes but not always.
Most governments look out for themselves(government) first, then their bank accounts and finally the citizens.

If a situation can be promoted as being good for the citizens, while being of more benefit to the people in power, then telling you it's for your own good is all they'll do.

Not like China is a saint in anyway.

FSFT !!!
I don't trust them. I have somewhat knowledge about 2 people working for or affiliated with it.

Looks like an undercover link spreading thread to me
Lol, I tried to remove the link, after one person like you said the same, but am unable to edit the post
FYI, am not affiliated to any links in this post, but quite inspired by their work, so shared! @DunderMannen If you find it spammy, please don't click!

I can say it wouldn't have happened in India if the geopolitical situation along the LAC was the same as it used be.
What triggered it is this situation that has changed in the past 4-5 months.

No idea about India, but I will just say this:

- In the US if you get a traffic ticket --> You will get tons of mail for traffic school etc. So no privacy
- Buy a house --> Anybody can find it online, what you paid for it etc
- Arrested --> Online
- Send email to Public office --> Online
- No GDPR style law (exception CA) so all kinds of data can and is collected (why not if you can)...
and many more examples

Now you tell me can it be about privacy (lol)

In my opinion this war that results in banning apps is a bad thing for the public, it's a new step to censorship! of course these apps collect all kinds of data and for them it's about who is gonna has the most significant part of it.
