Do you prioritize relevance or DR when building links?

Relevance tends to win out more often these days. A link from a site that’s closely aligned with your niche usually brings more value than a high-DR domain that’s generic or loosely related. Topical fit signals seem to carry more weight in how search engines see and reward links.
That said, DR still has its place. Higher DR domains can give you reach, referral possibilities, and authority cred—especially when you can secure links on relevant pages within those sites. It’s strongest when paired with relevance.
Long-term success usually comes from building a link profile that mixes both: highly relevant, lower-DR sites for consistency and niche alignment, plus occasional high-DR links that are also relevant enough to make sense.

I have had more success placing links on lower DR but hyper relevant blogs than high DR sites with general content. Especially for niche topics, relevance seems to beat metrics every time. Curious what others value more when picking sites.

That is a solid explanation..!!

Quick Question - Do you think Google will eventually devalue high DR but loosely relevant links entirely, or will they always hold some weight if the domain is strong enough?
