Looking from the perspective of new SEO trends its the social signals that count these days. There aren't a lot of social signals there though if your blog is more on the "private" side of things. I have two sex toy blogs one of which has started doing some business but I think people are hesitant leaving comments and liking it on facebook due to the content. Do you think there is any way to make users feel less awkward in doing that?

Is there something wrong maybe that in my websites lifetime of some 15k visitors it hasn't had a single legitimate comment?

It depends on the positioning of your blog. If you just describe them and hope visitors would buy them, social engagement would be low due to the "embarrassing" nature of the product. Now, if you reposition your blog as a HUMOR blog or a SEX SCIENCE news blog and the products are sold as 'sex aids' or 'marital aids,' you'd have less resistance to social sharing.

I agree with BlackBeans...adding some humor, a funny twist, is going to generate more traffic than if it's just listed like a card catalog in a library from back in the day..so to speak. Then you would be able to have more to invest regarding the social sharing. Make it unique to others!
