I started a blog on these topics, creating content is easy but getting enough traffic to monetize via ads is another story. Do you have any ideas on how I could monetize such a niche?

Thank you.

You can natural content in your blog site for getting up in google serp.

I also have one such website. I usually get content from one of the historians who keep on posting on my website, but traffic is usually less. Once in a blue moon if someone searches for that event then only I get traffic. But I believe it will be better to give paid access to colleges or universities to such content or allow them to ask questions about a particular topic and for others to answer.

I think getting paid members can be one of the best ways to get traffic to a history dedicated website.

So basically hide some articles behind a paywall? Any other idea?

I have multiple websites in related niches to your niches and most of my traffic comes from youtube, facebook.
Engaging and short video summary (not shorts or reels) of a topic.
Got few Facebook groups and pages that are active in related niches, posting engaging content that invokes curiosity (Mostly clickbait questions).

Monetization is a tricky part here if you just rely on ads it won't be fruitful.
I build websites around recent expired domains and also sell sponsored posts.
Also manage a few clients channel video content production (faceless videos).
All of these clients came someway through these websites related posts shared on YT and Facebook.
Flipping the website is also a good option after the websites starts to get decent volume of stable traffic for 6 months.

BTW my approach might not suit your goals if you are looking to build something authority in your niche.
I build similar bulk websites in many niches and multiply their traffic and earnings for profit.
It's an automated process often termed as autoblogging or even splogging.

Any other non ads ways? I heard that some sites takes interviews from upcoming authors to help them get established. Having an interview hosted on a great site can increase social status. Are there maybe any other ways?

Yes, there are bloggers, youtubers, podcasters who do this kind of stuff, I don't have much experience with these.
You may give PPC ads a try for traffic like say generic users mostly from t2, t3 countries can be a cheap target audience.

Yes, it's my own niche and area of expertise. If you want to monetize it, go the "cultural tourism"-path. You can really make history and culture profitable with cultural tourism.

Adsense is one of option. Also find your competitor sites for what are they use to monetize site. It help to get more insight about your niche.

You wanna try contentious, disputed and divisive kinda sub topics and present an alternate view. This will get you google search traffic. Just stay clear of getting banned by Google.
