Luckily I haven't had to have a full time day job in almost two and a half years and haven't had to work for anyone other than myself for little over a year thanks to IM. I spent most of my adult life making pizza, working construction and doing landscaping. Internet marketing has literally raised my quality of life so much that it's unbelievable.

Who else has been blessed enough to ditch your full time job for IM? And those who still work day jobs, what do you do? Do you enjoy it?

Well I agree with you, there are many people who do enjoy their day jobs and have very successful careers. Then of course are the people with dead end jobs they hate and would give anything to break free of! I'm glad you enjoy your career, it's a very rare thing these days!

I did marketing and project planning, mostly. Was also a journalist, it was fun, but would not exchange my life currently for nothing...

I just miss the whole "wear a tie, go to meeting, act as if" stuff, did it more when I was working a proper day job, lately I get only two to three meetings like that per month.

I also used to work with construction like you "tsmash" Last month i was able to take the step into IM on full time. I have waited for that moment in almost 3 years, it could be one of the best feelings I have ever felt when I realized that I was making enough of money to quit my day job.

Never had dayjob, but im thinking of studying into mechanical engineerin or something. I like cars a lot so building engines and tuning them would be good daily job, Fixing them up is also quite fun but it pays quite shit, though you get quite good benefits for car related stuff as mechanic.

I do SEO/SEM for a INC. 5000 web design company for my day job.

Other then that I also have my own side company doing SEO for my own offline clients :p

Oh and I manage 15 MNS doing affiliated marketing, which helps pay for things i need for my offline business.

Although I love my job and working with others interested in the industry on a day to day basis and it has a lot of perks (sending me to seomoz, NFL tickets, etc) I still love working on my own clients on the side so much better. Sometimes it feels like we don't do enough to get clients ranked, which can really drive me insane. I mean hell, I have more tools at home then a multimillion dollars company does. I have the freedom to do what I want to get the results my clients need, and it definitely shows and my clients on the side are always satisfied with the ROI.

I am Hoping one day to take that leap into putting 100% into my own company.. At least working in the industry shows me what to do and what not to do when I someday make it big :p

My next step in life is to get more into web design but as you can see I currently eat, breath, and shit SEO - so who knows when I will have the time for that.

I'm a service and support engineer for Marshall Monitors, 360 and Doremi.
Sometimes i do Access app's and small AutoIT/Imacros scripts for peanut money.
Payment is crap but at least it's something.
I love fiddling around, taking things apart and putting them back in one piece but i don't like the company i work for (i don't have a degree or anything in this field. Just the passion for "screwing" around and mod'ing things).

I am trying to get my head around IM but until now i failed and the best rank i had was no 6 in Bing, 6 in Yahoo and 28 or so in G.

Next thing i want to try is to buy some MNS and make my way to at least £50/day. I'm waiting for the tax return so i will have some decent cash to invest.
    That is all.

I left my day job a week ago to pursue IM full time. I previously was a strategic space planner for a medium sized US corporation. Space as in real estate, not rocket ships.

I started with IM just four months ago (I have a history of backend app development and web design/development as well as business though) and it's been good to me in just this short time. Good enough that it's worth my while to focus on it completely despite having a great job.

Of course I had to invest to get results this fast (bought sites, some JVs, etc.) but the same could be done over a year with no investment if you're focused and have a knack for testing/learning.

If you're not afraid of real work this industry can kick ass.
