I think this is not the first time someone talk about it. I have been reading the forum for some time and probably you already saw people sharing things and then asking for thanks and reputation. I know it's in the nature of the human the wish of status, but doesn't make sense to ask for it. If you want to share something, just give it away.

Also, honestly, I don't give a dammit about how many thanks or reputation the person has. Do you? Does having thousands of thanks brings more money into my pocket? The people I admire in this forum are the one who make contributions such good answers in the long run.:batman:

I only check the reputation (and itraders) of someone when I'm about to do business with him. Otherwise I don't care.

Yeah, but since we are in a blackhat forum doesnt make sense trust only on reputation in order to do business. Even if the person is the type of person who I mentioned in the post, don't you agree?

Its better to do some business with someone who is more reputable then someone who has joined the forum. It gives the person some starting credibility.

i totally agree. the fact is to check if the rep comes from useful things or for people who shares 10 DP ebooks daily.

Yeah, some people will have a horrible rep, but once they share a few ebooks or scrapebox lists then their rep climbs. It can be misleading, but what can you do?

How so? I got negative reputation because I shared a different viewpoint on something than someone. Their ego was so important, they felt the need to give me negative rep. How does that reflect my ability to be a good business partner?
It's a flawed system, and it means nothing to me imo.

I've also seen a lot lately of high rep people with asshole responses to questions asked by newbs looking for help. The answers serve no purpose, are not helpful, and I would never work with those people

Am I a good business partner? Yes
    Do I make money? Yes
Would I work with high rep people on this site? Not necessarily.

With that being said, There's a lot of great people on this site offering great advice, great services, etc. That's what makes this site great. And I would definately work with people here. But I agree with the OP, reputation and thanks serve no purpose based on the fact that I was given negative reputation for respectfully disagreeing with a high ranked member.

I don't like it when people ask for thanks/rep but I have completed a couple of transactions on here and given +iTrader to my partners, but not received them back.
Asking for thanks/rep sounds a little desperate but it's just common decency to place the iTrader if the transaction has gone to plan.

    Just my thoughts...

High thanks can be an indication that someone knows what they're talking about. There is a shit load of misinformation on this board and thanks / rep helps to sort some of the wheat from the chaff.

I personally like getting thanks, because I've solved quite a few technical problems for people on the board on my own time and it's nice to get some kind of appreciation for it.
