I think I heard this somewhere, but I can't find the source at the moment. I'm thinking maybe this is true, but thats because its so much easier to optimize a wordpress site.

Anyways I want to build about 20 sites that all look the same and I think it would be easier to just build the site with html/css and substitute out the parts I want to change. Is there an easy way to do it wordpress?

A Wordpress site is just html/css but it's just easier to manage with all the plugins.

I have 400 word fess sites and I'd also be interested in the outcome of this, they are easier to update and optimise but can have loading time issues depending on your plugins so then you need to cache the site and I suppose that then makes the site static

if no update in your site then best to create with HTML/CSS because it will not have loading issues but if you want to update on daily basis then WP is the best.

I've always had better results (indexing and ranking) using WP sites as opposed to plain html/css sites.

If you are good in html/css and know how to optimize your pages, a regular html/css website will surely rank better than wordpress (less code, faster...)

But wordpress will allow you to easily manage your content and there are a lot of plugins to help you.

I started to make mi own html/css website but finaly I switched to wordpress ;)

Wordpress does well because you can quickly extend functionality through plugins - not because its running wordpress.

The SE's see only the HTML/CSS.

Depends on your HTML code. If your HTML code has a lot of errors or type of errors that Google bot can't handle when reading your website's content, then that'll affect your rankings.

Google bots can read/understand only text. So whenever, I hand code a website using HTML/CSS, I always use a text browser called Lynx to see how my website looks to Google bots, so that I'm sure that my rankings suffer due to any HTML errors. Otherwise there is no difference between Wordpress websites or websites written in HTML/CSS since the output is finally in HTML.
