Do we need antivirus on win 11? If yes, which one is recommended?

Hey there,
Recently I bought a new laptop with pre-installed Win11. It has Windows defender but not sure if it's enough.

I had Quick Heal Total security on old laptop which is left with 1 month. Would like to know more on recommendations.

I just use windows defender with win 11 but I don't generally go to questionable websites.

Edit: Having read some of the posts here I decided to install Bitdefender and give it a try.

to be safe don't click any link/installer you don't know about.
you can also use virustotal site to scan suspicious file

It's not always intentional. Many times the sites, ads on them do redirect to malware sites. Hence looking for total security as same laptop is being used by my parents who are senior citizens. They may not be aware of the level I am.

Hello adwaitk007,
Yes, it is recommended to have antivirus software on Windows 11. Popular options include Bitdefender and Norton.

Maybe I'm lucky but I haven't ran antivirus software on my PC in years, from win 10 onwards probably

Never had an issue.

It is not like you need an anti-virus only if you like to download software from suspicious links. I guess you can get some shit on your pc just anytime

Exactly what I think of. That's the basis of this thread. Infecting system is avoidable with utmost care but we can not guarantee now a days. Hence does win defender does the job to find the threats or I need to have dedicated antivirus.

as the guy above said - malwarebytes is a good choice. If you are a responsible user I'm sure it will be enough

Latest windows has an inbuilt feature called Windows sandbox, utilize that to test out things you don’t trust and you’d be fine with Default protection of Defender. Make sure you keep the OS and the softwares up-to date with patches etc.

if you get some very powerful viruses.. you can use a script name Tron which complete annihilate any virsuses

well if it's for your parent, then it's gonna be hard.
Try to use brave browser. It has a built-in ad blocker/ and script blocker too.
honestly, most antivirus today is just bloatware in my opinion.

This is easy to ask. If yiu have good knowledge in hacking and security, then you can do without any protection. If you don't, then you need one.

Kaspersky and Bitdefender are the best.

Kaspersky is quite and will stay out of the way handling everything in the background and accepts your decisions. Just like a loyal Gemran Shepherd.

Bitdefender is fierce and aggressive. They believe they know better than you, just like a pitbull
