In my experience, 5 years ago, there were many websites publishing professionally written unique articles, and the websites sharing revenue from ad (like AdSense) with authors.

Now, I see those website are somehow changing their strategy, probably because the writers do not have enough passion for investing time for inadequate revenue.

Do side ads still make enough revenue to satisfy professional writers?

The reason for asking is that I know a group of professional people (somewhat friends), and I can convince them to start a project for creating an informative website; but the topics are not commercial ones to sell products and earn commission. I hope to find a secure way not to disappoint the writers.

To be honest I was never one for the commission-type jobs, fixed-rate was always the thing that I was dedicated towards the most. Once you see the money it's like your creative juices start flowing, if you know what I mean ;).

Well I own similar website and already have some pro authors . I decide to share up to 30% of the revenue with my authos (depending on their niche) . Of course there is always risk where your authors will just stop writing . Of course not all niche categories can earn the same amount and you will have to look forward for more $ways. I decide to include some clickbanks on specific niches where adsense won't make a penny. You have to set your TOS for your writers that if they stay inactive for over 6 months (I think 6 months afk period its fine) then you will suspend their accounts. Now many may say that is unfair to use your writers and then kick them out. But.. I believe that people who love writing and earning from it will stay active . I'm not asking much.. 2-3 articles monthly . Even my 8 year old brother can do it :) Many of my writers are from BHW and I'm amazed of the quality of some members here.

    Speaking from the writer's side,
    1. I'd have to have incredible trust in the website owner to be able to generate productive traffic.
    2. If I saw that the website wasn't performing very well after a certain period of time, I probably wouldn't perform very well either.

A good writer is not always a good marketer otherwise every freelance journalist would own a channel

Well I have written a couple of articles out of passion and to check how well I can pen down my thoughts. Ofcourse with a little bit of online research.
For beginners it seems to be tougher to gather information on the subjects which they are not aware. But the knowledge what you gain is priceless.
Yet when it comes to making money out of content writing, as for my observation, some sites pay very less. And I can say that for the amount what they pay is a survey which can be completed in 5-10 mins.
Alternatively I heard that there are content writing sites that pay heavily. But they expect a very high quality articles.
So finally it all depends upon the writer to chose between the passion of writing and the money which he/she is going to get out of it.
