Do you think sliders give good conversion rates for ecommerce sites?

Curious what people think. I saw some articles online saying sliders are outdated but I'm pretty sure some of the biggest sites like Amazon and Staples even use them so I'm not so sure.

    Thanks

We got rid of them our on site, it improved.

Does not mean all sliders are bad and hurt your bottom line, but ours must have sucked.

You must have USP's, use your home page above the fold to make the users get a hard on for what you are trying to do. It may be a bigger range of products, awards you have won, unique products only you have, cheaper prices or you may simply ship quicker than your competitors.

Those are far more important points than showing off the latest item you have in stock.
