Say you have a site that ranks very well for keyword123. You're like #1 in Google for keyword123 out of 1M competitors.

If on that site, you put links to other sites related to keyword123, are you going to potentially lose your ranking?

In other words, when you link to other sites, does that create linkjuice to give to them, or does it give away your existing linkjuice?

Let me know if this isn't clear.

It depends, if it's natural for you to link out to another related page, then link, it's clear that Google approves of natural linking out, as it's the basis of their ranking and how they find new content to crawl. However, it's still unclear if your page will lose or gain some strength from it.

From my own personal experiments and experiences, I have had fairly good ranking for keywords in the SERPS that have been in anchor text linking out to another related site.

My advice is, link out, but be picky, whatever you do don't link to any spam or malware. I'm also aware of linking out to competitor sites, for example, if I have a site about plastic toys, instead of linking to a competitor in the plastic toys niche, I'll keep my link relevant by linking to a site about wooden toys.

I don't have any plastic toys sites, it's just an example.

Maybe this example will clarify. If a high TR and PR page links to a spammy new page it will lose TR and possibly PR and definitely SERPS.

    ^ what is TR?

Oh and for clarification, I wasn't talking about linking to spammy pages. I know that can hurt you.

I just mean like if your site ranks really well for whatever, and you link to another related page (obviously not a competitor's page), it will give that other page a boost, but will it also take away from your page?

Try to stay away from new pages and pages without PR and you'll be in more of a safe zone.

That doesn't really answer my question of if linking to other pages hurts your own linkjuice/SERP placement.

    Also, what is TR?
