go and read up a few journey threads, and find the ones where people are struggling, and post in them asking if they need help, and your wiling to do whatever to help them get going. sure to find plenty of experience that way.

If you are asking about the bigger SEO Agencies, they do use a lot of marketing interns from local colleges as well as IT interns.

Smaller SEO companies (like mine) will work with you. They will probably have you start out doing account creation, and other mundane tasks, etc. to show you are willing to work and learn before actually spending time training you to do other tasks or how to use different software.

A lot will depend upon what you willing to put into it to get what you want out of it.

What is it you expect to get out of an "apprenticeship", what skills do you have going in, what tools do you have now, etc?

What can you do? SEO has a lot of grunt work that is, well, less than exciting to do.

What do you want to learn?

Anything related to IM, I personally would source the info myself online in forums that talk about SEO stuff, rather than interning for an SEO company. This way, you learn at your own pace, and you are in control of your situation.

If you can't find someone that will let you be an apprentice, start your own blogspot or wordpress and start testing out different strategies for lower level keywords. Go through some of the journey threads and try out other people's strategies. After some time, you will find what works and what doesn't for yourself. Start building off of this so that you can really understand what works.

Lots of marketing firms take on interns.
Try this search or one similar
    inurl:seo intern wanted +"marketing" OR +"SEO" OR +"ppc"

I know small amounts programming in HTML and javascript. I'm also a pretty good writer and an excellent communicator. Learning how to master the sale of a product. But when it comes to SEO, I know very little about the different types of software, keyword optimization etc.

Pretty much all types of companies take on interns! Just check out the yellow pages for all internet marketing/SEO companies in your area and contact them all per email. If I weren't travelling so much I'd ALWAYS have interns around! A company basically has no downside... no employment contract, no stupid contracts, overtime pay etc... nothing! awesome...

Why do you want to be a intern when you can be your own boss? o_O All you need is BHW, a brain and $50 for a domain + hosting

I am sure most agencies would be glad to take on an unpaid intern to work, provided you:
    - will show up on time
    - do what you're told

Then again you can learn all there is to learn by doing things other members have posted here.
And if you're disciplined you'll learn it much faster than in an agency.

The answer is yes, but...the nature of apprenticeship is not a free one, because lessons might get imparted, but not the value of them; I'm sure you know this, sorry to repeat. As an apprentice if you aren't $paying you're 0:00paying, but in the end it's paying yourself, or else it isn't an apprenticeship, but an internship(to "inter" means to bury someone).

An intern is different from an apprentice. An intern is a slave that may or may not get paid. An apprentice is investing in himself directly and actively, and usually will get compensation while an apprentice.

When the apprentice graduates, he's a journeyman, and it's then time for that individual to take what he's learned and travel around offering services and perfecting his/her craft. When an intern graduates, he hopes to get hired. Internships make dependents, Apprenticeships make artisans/owners.

Be wary when offering yourself to those willing to teach and give lessons. A good "master" will put you to work, not give you lessons while you sit at his feet.

    Good luck on your adventure

I'm sure they do mate...why not try knock on some doors and ask them? Worst that can happen is they say they're not taking anyone on after which you simply move on to the next one. :)

If you're from the UK your employers actually get you free for £2.65 p/h (apprenticeship wage) for 10 months from government funding but you have to do some coursework too ;)
