I'm wondering this because I'm worried that pages like /?s=<blahblah> could get indexed on Google and caused duplicate content. Is that possible? Or does it not index because there is no filename or something?

If you install All in One SEO Pack plugins, you will have options to use canonical tag. This canonical tag will help your site to avoid duplicate content penalty by telling search engine the 'actual' url for each variants page such as tags, search result, etc.
