lets say I wanted to promote a "how to face paint software" as an affiliate off clickbank.

Is it common for affiliates to google "how to face paint" and call/email the owner of that site asking to put their affiliate link on their site with an agreement that they would paypal them a flat rate amount of money each month or whatever?

Just thought of this today, and was wondering if its common

It's definitely a good idea, a good way to tell if the site owners have a clue about IM would be to see if they have any banners or adsense on their site. If they don't and you found them on google ranking high for a good search term there is a good chance you can get them onboard. But really, you have nothing to lose if they say no they say no. If you don't ask, the answer is always no!

Yeah really that sounds like a good idea. The only hard part is tracking everything if you get too big. But remember it's not exactly a new idea either. Normally though it's not called affiliate marketing, but people buy ad space on other peoples website all the time. Why not just offer them a flat rate per month or per year.

Would you mind keeping us posted on how it's going? Thanks.

Well as an update I was reading elsewhere and a guy mentioned that someone contacted him to get an ad an he charged 60 dollars for a year on his site. He seemed happy about it. Can you imagine if you email one that has traffic and they are happy to get 60 dollars for a year? You can blast the crap out of their site and they would never know either. hehe. I guess that's just the black hat in me
