Nobody seems to be thinking about the sort of footprint the OP would have had and if this would effect it, similar sites on the same server wont have the exact same sig, simmilar sites using the same theme on the same server with the same whois data, etc, etc would probably raise some alarms.

SERPS are changing quite a bit at present though, I've had keywords jumping up and down like nobodies business (but strangely adsense is way up...)

I think I read about this somewhere on Search Engine Watch about how Google does pay attention to sites having the same design on the same server and using that to affect the sites' ranks.

same here, i currently have over 40 sites using same theme, just all unique content, and never had a problem in over 3 years. This includes Niche Blogs and Amazon Affiliate sites.

A little hint if you are using very similiar content on a wordpress site.

    1) Use different themes - or the SAME theme. If you REALLY want to use the same theme, you CAN go into a couple of files in the theme and rename it. That combined with a different directory structure for the theme will give it a slightly different look - let's face it, most themes use the SAME files... just the name is different - which also means the directory name is different.

    2) Change the permalink structure. If you use a slightly different permalink structure, this can make your entire site look different. Having a permalink of postname looks different than category/postname or some hardcoded value.

I've found that doing those two things allowed me to actually get a site re-indexed after getting it clobbered for duplicate content.

    Update:

This past week it's been really weird..

Originally ranked #5, moved to #4. Then.. To 300.
For a week +, it was nowhere in the top 1000.
Then it moved back into the ~400 spot last night.

This is all with no changes or link building.

Hm I actually had something similar happen to me also recently..but I don't think it's because it's on the same server? That just never crossed my mind as it doesn't seem like it would be a smart thing for Google to do? Ha

Sounds more like a manual review. It's really hard to say without seeing everything.
