2 business websites, same template, same server.
Different content, similar-ish link formats, different keywords, different meta data, different images/alt-tags. Both sites use "ONE" word that's the same for the company.

Natural link building, no paid links or anything, all natural. Was ranking #4 for keywords. All of the sudden it dropped off for all of the keywords.
    Lost my place page too..

These are main money authority sites..

Only ranking #1 for exact company name, all the other keywords are gone. The other site is still ranking #1 but keywords dropped 4-5 spots for other keywords.

Seems like Google hates similar sites on the same server.
Fuck that noise, it's a business website, deal it with Google.

Salty, not going to complain but it's more work on my end to re-do the entire site.. Shouldn't have to do this, it's a legit site.

I just made two of them. Same templates. Same logo. Same services. Different Name. Different Languages. And now that i read this, more work on my end. Maybe i buy another hosting and just transfer everything.

This is all speculation. You cant say that it is from one server. The truth is you don't know why they are dropping and trying to pinpoint a reason but you don't know! It sound like they just refreshed your sites. Nobody can tell you what is happening with your sites or even try to without all your data. These threads are spreading wrong info...

I myself have 20-30 sites all in the same niche and all on the same service and have never had this problem.

With thousands of sites on some shared hosting IPs I doubt google would penalize sites that way.

    These are just speculations op!

Same thing happened to me yesterday. Dropped all keywords for all pages. White back links, more than 1k pages, was pulling $200 + from that site alone, now nothing. Sucks mate ):

It's NOT speculation, they are on ONE server. They use some of the same shit, what else do you need? Backlink history? It's nothing impressive, nothing panda would effect. They've been sitting at those spots for over 6 years. It's a matter of duplicate items on the same server.

    Also 6 years NO ISSUES.
Two months ago I switched the template to be the same as my other site.
Site holds up fine for a month and a 1/2 even with all new pages indexed, etc.

    ...

Then site gets hit. Not even ranked in top 1000..

I know what I'm talking about this is my site, there's clearly some things going on with Google and what you can take from this.. well that's up to you.

Also people running Niche sites.. You are doing entirely Different Topics. The same template doesn't matter.

But if you use the same template and go after the same topic, you'll get screwed. There's no way around it, I can't just leave out my business name for that one site.. Also sites were not interlinked or anything.

I agree with him too. I personally have about 2-3 niche sites in the same host. So far no issues.

I dont think your site tanked because of two niche and same server, I used to run two sites like that for years and nothing happened till offers dried down.

google has been shuffling serp lately

It's only speculation that this is the reason for the ranking drops...

5 of my sites tanked yesterday. Something else is going on with google, it's not about your themes mate.

Ive been researching pretty hard lately making similar sites and tweaking only one or two things as I make changes and then letting it sit for a stretch of time, and it does not look like the theme was the issue nor the same host. This is logical as well, but I didn't trust my logic. My only advice until I gather more data from my research is to take a look at what you have done for these sites just like a normal SEO strategist would do. I say this because even white hat techniques can be penalized. Again, white hat techniques can be penalized if they are overdone or if certain combos makes them grey hat. See if you have any combos that make your sites seem like they were grey hat.

Post more info here and we'll help you sift through it with our own anecdotes and tests.

I've been running niche sites in a similar manner to the op. I haven't been sandboxed but some of my sites have gone back a bit. If it helps the sites I have built backlinks to are getting hit, the ones that I have left alone are still all top 5

There are many footprints that can cause this. Having many websites hosted in the same IP is only one of them.

I am sure you dont interlink all those domains, am i right?

OP, you can host them in the same server if you are using a VPS, just get new IPs...

And remember, dont put all your eggs in the same basket period.

I have 850 clients spread across only 4 different servers. All same themes, plugins, and number of pages. Only thing diff is the content. No penalties. Been this way for years.

Were the other sites on the same IP or just the 2?

Sounds like speculation given the number of conflicting reports, though it's google and they are prone to doing things with their algorithms that don't make any sense on the surface
