    Yes, this is possible. If Google finds out about it which they do from time to time. You can become penalized or de-indexed.

    It is possible though to request re inclusion but, that can take a while.

    So could I hire someone to create a link farm for my competition? The I can anonymously report the link farm to goggle and get it banned?

    LOL... yes, that would work... just don't spend too much money on it. They would eventually come back after fighting it and saying "no, I didn't do that"

    Karma is a bitch in this industry. The point is to be better than your competition, not spend all your time trying to make them go away. :rolleyes:

    PS just be careful not to piss off somebody with more resources than you could make your life unpleasant.

    Great! I have spare server that I'm not using, contracted in such a fashion that it cannot be traced back to me. I will buy some name with keywords they would use, and start creating the link farm with dozens of subnet pointing to the same root.

    ie:
    widget.com = /var/www/html
    widget.widget.com = /var/www/html
    buy-widgets.widget.com = /var/www/html

    so I dont' have to make and upload different sites for all the subnets..

    Injected them into a blog posting under "Joe Schmo" so that they start getting indexed and after a month or so report it.

    I am better than my competition, I just don't have the advertising budget they do. I have about 5% of the market share, and if I can get them banned I will have 90% of the market share.. if I can have it for only a month or two, that would be a sizable enough income to invest in advertising on a mass scale like they do.

    Would phplinks serve this purpose? Is it the most popular most recognized link directory software. Something that a google engineer would take one look at and say, "yup, that's a link farm"?

    Yeah, I'd like to call this "reverse blackhat".

    Of course they didn't do that.. a likely story don't you think?

    hmm,, who would create a link for you other than you?? Doesn't sound like anything I would believe if i were Google.

    Google would tell them they have to take the link farm down to get re-indexed, of course they can't because they really did not do it. So Google would think they just don't want to take it down, and they would never be included in the index again.

    I won!(maybe) I'll tell you how it goes after a month or so..

    Call me the "web assassin". (ominous laughter plays in the background)
